INK – regional partner of international Remembrance Garden campaign
The event took place in the Irkutsk forestry damaged by fires. Volunteers, representatives of the regional authorities, institutions and organizations planted more than 8 thousand young pine trees. It is planned to plant a total of 130 thousand seedlings in the region.
“The Remembrance Garden campaign has two important goals – to take care of the forests and to maintain remembrance of the soldiers who gave their lives to protect the Fatherland in the battles of the Great Patriotic War. In the Irkutsk region, more than 200 thousand people went to the war, more than 100 thousand never came back. In each family, there was someone fighting at the frontlines or working in the home front during the Great Patriotic War. This year is the first considerable anniversary of the Remembrance Garden campaign – five years. The tradition of planting trees ought to be ever-lasting,” said the Governor of the Irkutsk Region Igor Kobzev.

The international Remembrance Garden campaign has been held since 2020. The main goal of the large-scale project is to plant 27 million trees as a tribute to those fallen in the Great Patriotic War. The campaign also targets conservation and restoration of the forests. Every year, “green monuments” are planted in all the regions of Russia and abroad. Volunteers from more than 50 countries have contributed to the project since 2020.
